If you are one of those people who don’t believe Google is tracking you or knows very little about you then sadly, You are likely mistaken!

Today I’m going to show u some ways to figure out exactly what Google knows about you aside from just googling your name in a google search.

AdSettings

First login to your google account and then go to: adssettings.google.com. On this page you will see what google thinks you like along with your age and sex. Chances are google has you pegged correctly.

Activity Tracking

Next, this is where this gets scary. You can actually see all the activity that google is tracking on you. Who knows what they do with this data. Go to myactivity.google.com & check out the activity. It might just scare you!

Location Tracking

Even more scary, Google knows everywhere you have been to or searched for on Google maps! To see that data go to google.com/maps/timeline & you will see that Google tracks you everywhere & has for years!

What I found?

I was able to find that google knows my name, gender, birth date, personal cell number, websites I visited, exactly where I’ve been for years and even knows when I have used google voice. If I had Google Home it would know exactly when I used that to turn on a light for example.

And this folks is why I have been trying to limit myself from smart devices, IOT home devices, and big brother services such as Google, Google Chrome, Google Home, Alexa, Amazon, Microsoft and other big brother names. They all track you in similar ways that google does.
The post What does Google know about you? first appeared on Matt Crawford.

It’s likely by now that you have heard of the new game craze called Pokemon Go that was released on July 6, 2016, that is unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week or so.

Pokemon Go allows players to capture, battle and train virtual Pokemon who appear throughout the real world. It works by using GPS on your smart phone and the camera of compatible devices. This post explains what Pokemon Go in a bit more detail than what I’ve given here.

What I find hilarious is the fact that people who are playing this game are getting hurt while doing so by walking into signs, fire hydrants, and other objects because they aren’t paying attention where they are walking. In fact I feel the game might be so dangerous that somebody could even get killed while playing it by walking into traffic.

But those aren’t the only dangers in the game as The Guardian reported stating that players who signed up for the game in fact potentially gave Niantic Labs full access to google accounts where they can go as far as to read & send e-mail, access, edit and delete documents in google drive, google photos, and they can even access browser & map history. While I don’t believe Niantic Labs has intentionally sought to gain access to users personal data it is still worrying to me that this type of thing is possibly in this day in age where security is on almost everybody’s mind.

I’m sure Niantic Labs and google will sort out the Pokemon Go security issues with google accounts soon & users likely won’t have to do anything on their end to fix the security issue.

So what are u waiting for? Go download Pokemon Go and watch where u walk and don’t get hit by a car!
The post Pokemon Go first appeared on Matt Crawford.

I’m not sure how many of my readers are System Administrators or work in the IT field but I noticed a really frustrating issue with Chrome lately since they did a bunch of updates and no longer support SHA-1 SSL Certs.

Many of the systems I manage at work no longer work properly in the Chrome browser so I have to resort to using IE or Firefox to do my job. Issues like this is why I may eventually switch back to Firefox and move away from Chrome permanently.

Some of the system chrome no longer works properly with are:

Dell DRAC (java security issue)

McAfee EPO Server (acts flaky and doesn’t function properly in chrome)

Exchange Admin Center (one of the windows needed to manage users never loads in chrome)

SonicWall Analyzer (Error “Java Unsupported for this site”)

Any website with a SHA-1 Certificates

Also has issues with Self-Signed SSL Certificates

LastPass Autofill on some websites

Some other issues I’ve also noticed in Chrome are:

PDFS don’t automatically open in Chrome

NPAPI Plugin issue

DNS Timeout error messages

Looks like if Google continues on this path then I won’t be using Chrome at all anymore because it pretty much fails to function properly as a browser for anything I need to do in my day to day life.
The post Chrome Starting to Suck first appeared on Matt Crawford.
