Sharing your nudes online can feel empowering, boost your self-confidence or even give you a hit of dopamine. However, there are many risks you may encounter by sharing your nudes online and we will discuss those in this article. Personally, I took the risk and I still share my nude image online today and we will discuss why I do that as well.

Risks of sharing nudes

There are so many reasons why one might not wish to share their nude images online. Even sharing nude images in a personal direct message can effect you in big ways!

Some ways sharing nudes can effect you include:

Loss of control: People can download, screenshot, repost, archive, or redistribute an image without your permission. Deleting the original doesn’t guarantee every copy disappears.

Permanent digital footprint: Images may resurface years later, even after you’ve changed accounts, careers, relationships, or your feelings about sharing.

Unwanted sexualization: You may post nudity without sexual intent, but you can’t control how other people interpret or use the image. Naturist/nudist content is particularly susceptible to being taken out of context.

Harassment and unwanted attention: Public nude content can attract explicit messages, unsolicited photos, sexual propositions, persistent followers, or abusive comments.

Catfishing and impersonation: Someone can steal your photos and create fake dating, social-media, or adult-content profiles pretending to be you.

AI manipulation/deepfakes: Existing images can potentially be altered, combined with other material, or incorporated into convincing synthetic content.

Doxxing and identification: A photo can reveal more than your body. Backgrounds, tattoos, reflections, metadata, landmarks, usernames, and other clues may help someone identify you or determine where you spend time.

Employment and professional consequences: Employers, clients, coworkers, or professional organizations may encounter the material and interpret it differently than you intended.

Relationship and family consequences: Partners, relatives, children, friends, or acquaintances may eventually encounter the images. Their reaction isn’t necessarily something you can control.

Extortion or nonconsensual distribution: Intimate images can potentially be used to threaten, embarrass, manipulate, or pressure someone.

Platform consequences: Social networks have different nudity policies. Content can result in removal, reduced visibility, suspension, or account termination.

Changing your mind later: Something you’re completely comfortable sharing at 25, 35, or 45 may not be something you want circulating ten years later.

Sharing nudity isn’t automatically reckless however, the risk depends heavily on where, how and with whom you are sharing with.

Am I comfortable with what could happen to this particular photo after I share it?

You can consent to sharing a nude photo. You can’t guarantee what happens to every copy afterward.

If you are in a professional career you likely would think twice about sharing much of anything online especially not nudity. In many professional careers their employers are held to a higher standard and fired if they don’t uphold that standard. The companies fear their employers will shed bad light on the company especially if they are behaving in a way that doesn’t align with the company’s values.

Probably why I’m no longer in a “professional career”.

My Story

Nude on my deck

Growing up I had low self confidence, hated my body, and pretty much hated myself. I would often wear long sleeves and pants even in the heat of summer to hide my body from the world. Eventually, I started learning to love myself more, slowly started wearing short sleeve shirts, and eventually shorts too.

With each bit of skin I uncovered I started to feel more like myself. As a teen, I slowly started by being nude in my bedroom which morphed into sleeping nude. Sleeping nude morphed into going downstairs nude to use the bathroom at night. This morphed into exploring the yard nude at night. I loved the feel of the air on my nude body.

Eventually, I started wondering if others shared the same love of being nude. I started by sharing nude images of myself online, perhaps to see if others enjoyed being nude like me. I shared before fully outweighing the permanent personal risks associated with doing so.

Sharing my nude body offered me a sense of freedom, confidence, and self-expression. It was me allowing others to see me, all of me.

Sharing nudes was more for self-expression than validation because my confidence was already peaking by this time.

Sharing nudes helped me further build self esteem and the confidence to share more.

Though sharing nudes has brought me many joys and happiness in life. It has also brought me many problems growing up.

Issues I’ve encountered

As I mentioned previously, I have encountered many issues while sharing nudity online. Some of these problems still occur today and some of them I have overcome.

Some of the issues are:

Co-workers, family, friends have all seen me nude.

My children teased by classmates for my nudes online.

Possible missed job opportunities.

Judgement of others:

Called a creep & pedophile.

Teased for being uncircumcised.

Shamed for sharing nudes.

People sexualize my photos.

Creepy comments, and DMs from men.

Loss of some personal friendships.

2026 and beyond

These days, I continue to share because nudity has become a form of genuine self-expression. I enjoy the vulnerability and openness of saying “This is me, I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m not ashamed if I am nude.“. I’ve grown pretty used to the fact everybody who knows me has stumbled upon my nude images and it’s something I can live with.

I do not share nudes for sexual pleasure. I’m just me, a clothes free version of me, living my life clothes free.

Nude yardwork.

Conclusion

I enjoy being transparent regarding my beliefs on nudism. I also believe sharing nudes help open the minds of certain people who try to understand that nudism isn’t sexual.

More importantly, I quit people pleasing. I share because it makes me happy, brings me peace and allows me to express myself. Others don’t get to define who I am based on their thoughts and opinions.

I don’t believe being seen nude is necessarily a bad thing and I can live with it.
The post The real risks of sharing nudes online first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Pitfalls of sharing nudity online

For many many years years I have been taking and sharing photos of me entirely nude online. My intentions were to promote the nudist lifestyle and show others that nudity isn’t sexual. You see, I believe that by showing nudity it helps remove the stigma around nudity. To avoid legal trouble from using images of others, I decided to shoot & share myself nude.

Some people I know in real life have supported me while others grew disturbed and blocked me. It’s crazy to me to think that so many are disturbed by simple nudity.

For now, I think I need to slow down, share less nudity and focus on my future. I need to do this because I want to find a better job than simply working in a factory.

Yes, I’m aware the damage has already been done. People have saved, reposted my nudes all over the internet and I can’t remove them. I never had an issue being seen nude however, it’s others in society that have issues with my nudity.

Job Issues

I’ve had several jobs over the past 20+ years from office jobs, to factory jobs. None of these jobs have directly fired me due to my online nudity. However, I can’t help to wonder if my online nudity is effecting me landing a better job.

My current job is in a factory, I have worked here for almost 3 years now. During these years I continued to be very public about nudism. Public in fact that co-workers found my nudes, passed them around work. Now everybody has seen my nudes online. Doesn’t bother me that they saw them, but doesn’t help me find a new job.

Certain jobs I would like to land going forward would frown upon this type of public nudity. I know, the damage has been done, I can’t remove my nudes from the internet especially when people have saved and republished them. What I can do though is clean up my main accounts and try to be a bit more discreate about it.

Loss of relationships

I have went through multiple partners over my lifetime for various reasons. Some relationships simply weren’t meant to be while others didn’t like me sharing nudity.

My latest relationship with Telethia ended because she was embarrassed by my online nudity. She demanded that I quit sharing nudes online because it destroyed the intimacy between us. At one point she attempted payback and was sending other men her nudes and sharing them publicly online.

Other partners simply cheated on me and found other partners who behave like I do.

Anybody who dates me has to be ok with the fact there are nudes of me all over the net but I’m finding out most women aren’t ok with it. I’m not afraid of ending up alone, I just don’t want to end up alone and broke..

Family

My entire family has now stumbled upon my nudes online. My mom finally embraced it and is ok with me being nude even if she is visiting. Again, not bothered by this but it would bother others.

Unashamed

I’m not ashamed of being nude or being seen nude by anybody which I have made clear. I simply haven’t planned for retirement up to this point and at 45 I should already be way ahead of where I am. At some point I need to make some changes for me and think about that more seriously.

Does any of this make sense? Leave a comment below.
The post Have I entirely destroyed my life by sharing nudes online? first appeared on Matt Crawford.
