AnyDesk is a great solution for anybody who is in a pinch to either get assistance from another person or assist somebody with their computer issue. Best of all AnyDesk is free for personal use and is cheap enough to pay for commercial use if that is your need.

In this post I will walk you through using AnyDesk to receive help or use it to help another person. I’m going to start off with going over how to receive help because I am a techy and I often help others more than have them help me.

Use AnyDesk to receive help

First you need to download AnyDesk so go to AnyDesk.com and click the red download button.

Now that you have it downloaded you need to click the AnyDesk icon to run it.

Give the user who is helping you the AnyDesk Number. It should be a string of 9 numbers.

When they remote in you will have to click Accept before they can see your screen.

Now the user should be able to see your screen, move your cursor, etc.

How to help somebody using AnyDesk

Install AnyDesk on your computer and open it up.

Ask the person for their AnyDesk number (should be a string of 9 numbers)

Type in their AnyDesk number into one of the two spots shown below

The other user will have to hit Accept before you can see their screen but once they do you should be able to see and control their computer.

That’s all there is to it… If you have questions or issues using my guide please leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you.
The post How to use AnyDesk first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Twitter isn’t exactly against nudity entirely but they do have some rules about how to setup your account that they prefer users to follow.

Even better, if you follow Twitter’s rules on nudity then you likely won’t be banned anytime soon. So what are Twitter’s rules you ask? Well if you read their terms of service they basically clearly outline it for you but many folks simply don’t follow the rules.

Twitter’s Rules are listed here for those who fail to stumble through the TOS to find the link.

In the rules under the section “Content Boundaries and Use of Twitter” and down to “Graphic Content” you will see this information.

Set your account to “Sensitive”

Basically what that means is that to meet Twitter’s terms you need to do the following:

Click your profile photo (by the tweet button up top) and click “Settings and Privacy”

Then on the left side click “Privacy and safety”

Scroll to bottom and check the box by “Mark media I Tweet as containing material that may be sensitive”

You you are free to post nudity without fear of Twitter banning you.

Alternatives to Twitter!

Tired of Twitter and their sensitivity to nudity? Well there are other options!

Ello.co – Ello allows nudity but they do ask that u mark your account as containing nudity (mostly for IOS users as Apple requirements to have Ello.co in their store).

Flickr – Nudity is allowed here but only if you flag it appropriately.

SnapChat – SC isn’t entirely against nudity but too much nudity and they may eventually ban you.

Tumblr – These folks allow nudity which is surprising because it’s owned by Yahoo.

In 2016 End to End Encryption is becoming very popular and more and more people are moving towards this type of Encryption.

This year in 2016 I plan to do the same thing because I’m growing tired of programs like Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Skype & the potential for the government or hackers to be spying on my private conversations.

Now, I know you might think that you don’t have much to hide which may be true. I know I don’t really have anything special to hide but I still like to keep my private conversations “Private” and away from the spying eyes of our government and potential hackers.

So if you plan to chat with me in 2016 on Hangouts, Messenger, Skype or even good old SMS I may ask you to add me on Viber, Whatsapp or even Signal instead because I simply want to use End to End Encryption vs unsecured messaging types noted above.

I recommend if you do use Viber and Whatsapp that you DO NOT back them up to cloud services like ICloud or Google Drive because those platforms aren’t encrypted and is a security risk.

Read this story for more interesting information.
The post End to End Encryption Messaging first appeared on Matt Crawford.

A new version of the Raspberry PI 3 has released and I have to say I’m quite impressed with the new specs. This little unit is 10x the performance of the Raspberry Pi 1.

Below are the complete specs

Raspberry Pi 3 – Model B – 64 Bit ARMv8 with 1G RAM and WiFi

Raspberry Pi 3 Specs:

SoC: Broadcom BCM2837

CPU: 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU

GPU: Broadcom VideoCore IV

RAM: 1GB LPDDR2 (900 MHz)

Networking: 10/100 Ethernet, 2.4GHz 802.11n wireless

Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.1 Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy

Storage: microSD

GPIO: 40-pin header, populated

Video: HDMI – VideoCore IV 3D

Audio: 3.5mm analogue audio-video jack,

USB: 4× USB 2.0

Other Ports: Camera Serial Interface (CSI), Display Serial Interface (DSI)

Power: 2.5 Amps

Operating system support – Linux and Unix or Windows 10 IoT

As you can see the Pi 3 still doesn’t have SATA, USB3 and gigabit ethernet but the pricing still remains at $35 and does come with wifi, ethernet and a 64 bit quad core cpu. This little unit is fully supported by linux and mostly by FreeBSD and other Unix-like systems too. While this unit may not replace your desktop computer it defiantly is a great little performer for other uses. I hear the RPi3 has an awesome community to gain support from as well.

The biggest update is the 64 bit Quad Core Broadcom BCM2837 CPU and the addition of a BCM43143 wifi chip built in means no more wifi adapters. You can use Linux, Unix-life system such as FreeBSD, Centos, Ubuntu and even Windows 10 on the Raspberry Pi 3.

The price of the Pi 3 is listed at:

$35 USD

£30.00 (UK)

INR 3000 (India)

So what are you waiting for? Go buy yours today!
The post Raspberry Pi 3 B Released! first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Who knew that trying to get Sharepoint and their edit in excel feature would be such a pain to get working correctly. This is one of the many tasks I worked on today at work and I wanted to share my experience with it with my viewers here. With that said, here is how I got it working.

The Fix

First go to Control Panel àInternet Options > trusted sites ? and add your URL for Sharepoint.

Then login to your SharePoint (I used Firefox) and pick a document from > Documents > all > and I picked one at random that was an excel document

Once it opens click > Edit workbook > Edit in Excel > which should start to open the document in your local copy of excel (If you get a message about it being blocked click allow and allow and remember.)

But wait, I got this popup (which is actually an add-on for Excel). Help Document Link
So I just went ahead and picked the top option “Microsoft Office 2016” in my case (I wouldn’t use Choose and then pick Excel because that causes other issues.)

After I did that Microsoft Office asked me for a username and password to sign in.
So at the sign in screen I entered my e-mail that I use with Sharepoint

Windows announced it’s first major update for windows 10 on November 12, 2015. While i’m not sure exactly what has changed Microsoft boasted that the changes include the following:

Performance in everyday tasks, such as boot time now nearly 30% faster than Windows 7 on the same device.

With Cortana, you can use your device’s pen** to just scribble a note in the Cortana Notebook and Cortana will recognize the phone number, email address, and even physical address to help you set reminders. Cortana can also now keep track of your event and movie bookings too, sending you helpful reminders to know where to go and get there on time, plus the option to book and track an Uber**. We’re excited to make Cortana available in Japan, Australia, and Canada and India (in English) with features and experiences customized for each market.

Microsoft Edge offers improved performance and security, along with tab preview, which allows you to hover over your open tabs and get a preview of what’s on those websites without leaving the page you’re on. Microsoft Edge now syncs your Favorites and Reading list items across devices so you can easily get back to the content you’re interested in most. And, Cortana will now notify you of the best coupons** from your favorite retailers such as Staples, Macys and Best Buy when shopping in Microsoft Edge.

And much more with improvements to Mail, Calendar, Photos, Groove, Xbox, Store, OneNote, Solitaire, and more!

I personally haven’t noticed a lot of big changes since I received the update. Read Microsoft’s technote on this update for more information.

Today is July 29th and is the day when Microsoft has released Windows 10 updates. The updates will be a rolling update meaning not everybody will get the update right away but I have found a way to force these updates if you don’t want to wait.

*Edit* Found a faster and better way to upgrade than using the steps below. All you simply have to do is visit THIS LINK and download the installer which allows you to install windows 10 on the fly or burn a ISO image for fresh install.

Follow the steps below to start upgrading now and skip the wait.

First, navigate to “C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload” (you may need to replace C: with a different drive letter if you installed Windows elsewhere) and delete all the files there. This will give Windows Update a clean slate.

Open Windows Update by hitting the Windows key, typing “Windows Update” and clicking on it.

Open up the command prompt by hitting the Windows key and typing in cmd. Don’t hit enter. Right click and choose “Run as administrator.”

Type (but do not enter yet) “wuauclt.exe /updatenow” — this is the command to force Windows Update to check for updates.

Back in the Windows Update window, click “Check for updates” on the left hand side. It should say “Checking for updates…”

While this is happening, switch back to the command prompt and enter the command you already typed in.

You should now see Windows Update say that it is downloading Windows 10. Before you actually install it though, back everything up and make sure you’re ready.

If you get error 80240020 like I did while during the windows 10 download and install process then simply repeat the steps above and try again..

Enjoy Windows 10 kiddos.
The post Windows 10 Released first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Have you ever had a windows update stuck at 0% for a extended period of time? Well I’m sure you have as I know I personally have had that issue lots of times during my career as a sysadmin over the years.

Well this post explains how to solve that annoying issue!

Step 1

Press Windows + R. This will prompt a run dialogue box. In here type, services.msc

Step 2

Now it brings us to all the services installed in Windows. These services are listed in alphabetical order. Scroll down and look for Windows Update Service. Right click on it and stop it.

Step 3

Now go in C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution and delete all of its contents. Actually, this is the folder where downloaded installation files were stored. But since Windows update suck, they somehow have problem with partially downloaded update files.

Step 4

Go back to services again (as mentioned in Step 1) and this time start the Windows Update Service, by right clicking on it. Try to update Windows again. It should be working this time.

This post is about my thoughts and opinions about why I will never buy an Apple device again for as long as I shall live and maybe some reasons why you shouldn’t either though I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t buy one.

DAta/Picture Complaint:

If you download photos or other data from the web u can delete them from the phone.

If you sync pictures or other data with iTunes to the phone then you can’t delete them from the phone. You can only delete them by doing it through iTunes.

Ringtone Complaint:

It’s near impossible to get a ringtone to work on these shitty devices. You have to convert them to a special AAC version aka .m4a and then I had to use a 3rd party software (itunes sucks) to place the files in the correct folder on the phone.

Icloud sucks:

Even when you do delete a photo from your phone (if it lets you see data/picture complaint above) the photo still exists in icloud which only gives you so much free space before it nags you to clean it out or upgrade to one of their paid plans.

Itunes is crap

Itunes is the most worthless piece of shit software I have ever used. Lets not forget to mention how fucking confusing it is to use and how some options that are supposed to be there aren’t there for windows users. Maybe it’s fine if you own all Apple crap (I don’t own any Apple computer) but if you use itunes on windows with a apple device then forget about it. Nothing ever works right and I always resort to using 3rd party software. Even the internet knows Itunes sucks!

Phone Registration:

Once you buy an ijunk device it is registered to your e-mail address which means until it is unregistered then nobody else can register it and use it with their itunes account. Buying used apple gear is a huge risk because you are fucked if somebody has it registered to their e-mail and you don’t have a receipt proving you purchased it and from where.

I went through a huge process with them to get a iphone for work unregistered to an old employee and it took them over a month to finish the process. Link1 – Link2

Keyboard sucks:

The apple keyboard sucks and it doesn’t have Swype.

Locked down

The phone is pretty locked down to what you can and can’t do with it unless you jailbreak it. Android has a similar issue but I feel more locked down with Apple but that could be because it’s missing features that I have on Android.

Apple Store

The apple store is complete garbage in my opinion. It lacks many apps that I like and the ones it does have normally suck anyways.

Outdated Hardware

Only thing good about an iphone is the screen resolution. Other than that they normally contain outdated hardware and aren’t much different than older versions of the same device. Apple just wants to up sell their shitty product.

Made in China

Apple devices are made in china by people they hire for pennies a day to assemble these devices. Personally I don’t want to pay the huge amount of money they ask for something that only cost them pennies to make.

Factory Reset

Requires a PC simply to reset the phone back to factory. Link

Security

Apple and Apple users boast about how secure they are when in fact this statement is just the opposite. In 2014 Apple was #1 on the list of most insecure devices above Microsoft Windows and Android. Apple users think Apple is more secure because Apple isn’t as transparent about their security issues as Microsoft and Android.

For example check out the new Wi-Fi hack that renders an apple device worthless just for being in the area where the device is located.

These are just a few reasons why I won’t buy an apple device. I’m sure I could find more if I took the time to do more thinking and digging but I simply don’t want to waste my time.
The post WHY I WON’T BUY AN IJUNK (Apple Device) first appeared on Matt Crawford.

I’m rather upset to learn that with Windows 10 the OS is likely to become a subscription based service that you will pay for monthly or possibly yearly at a time.

Yes they do plan to give us a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out for the first year but after that we have to start paying subscription charges from what I understand. Microsoft hasn’t released details as to what they plan to charge for this subscription service to use Windows 10 but I suspect that a lot of people will not want to use it and will probably stick to Windows 8.1 or earlier versions of windows as long as they can before they switch to Linux or some ot her OS.

Personally myself, I’ve already started using Linux more and plan to learn more about it so I can make the switch eventually. Currently though I still use Windows OS at my job, for my photography and for gaming. Other than that I could switch to Linux full time and be happy.
