At first glance the website ohnaturist.com looks promising and somewhat inviting as they boast about over 8700+ members on their front page but after I joined the website at somebody’s recommendation is when the problems began.

Shortly after registering on the website, you will be walked through a process to fill out your profile and upload your photo. Your site access is based on what photo you decide to upload. If you upload anything but a full nude photo that includes your face then your access will be limited.

Since my full nudes have been on display on the internet for years now and many folks have seen me nude even folks I know in real life I figured I would upload a full nude photo to ohnaturist.com which I did.

I was granted “full access” upon doing this and started venturing around the website. I quickly noticed however that the only features this website has is:

a brief profile area where you can write about yourself.

place to upload photos

place to search for other members

place where you can message other members

List of events (mostly empty)

Rent out your house

The website has no other real features to it. It’s essentially a place to upload your photos & message other people.

I was a member of website for a few weeks before I deleted my profile and during that time I got over 80 messages from Men who were commenting on my nude photo or were simply trying to strike up some sort of conversation. Many of these comments I received where sexual in nature and I found very few to zero women on the website.

Essentially it’s just a website of old men some who are perverts. I do not recommend it if you are interested in genuine nudism.
The post Oh!

A while back I ended up moving this website G3K.XYZ to a new host because at one time I thought about closing down my server (currently located at Host Dime) which is somewhat expensive and downgrading to a shared hosting package offered by NameCheap.

The hosting plan at NameCheap that I picked was a plan named “Value” & only costs only $9.88 a year for the first year and $38.88/year afterwards for the following features:

20GB SSD

Unlimited Bandwidth

Up to 3 websites

Unlimited Parked domains

50 subdomains

Daily backups

Cloudflare ready

Cpanel

100% Uptime (or so they claim)

and bunch of other features.

However, after being over at NameCheap for just over a month my website was down over 4 times within a month period and the uptime was looming more around 97% vs the 100% they claim. Each time they were down I complained and the support reps were pretty good to help me out though they delayed longer than I liked asking me stupid questions vs digging right into the problem. They delayed so much in fact that by the time they started digging into the problem it simply started working again and they never did have a good explanation on why it wasn’t working to begin with.

Now don’t get me wrong on this, NameCheap is a great company with some great people. I actually still use NameCheap for my domain registrar & have used them for SSL Certs (which I plan to do again soon) but I doubt I’d recommend them for hosting services just yet.

As of 3/16/16 I have moved my hosting for G3K.XYZ back to my server where I know I have uptime currently at 99.7% vs the 97% that I was getting with NameCheap. I guess the lesson here is that I should just keep forking out the extra money (for now) to keep my server going vs moving to a cheaper shared hosting plan with NameCheap.
The post Name Cheap Hosting Review first appeared on Matt Crawford.

I have windows 10 at home on my laptop and in a home environment it seems fine though it can be a bit sluggish at times, and unstable as this article suggests. I’ve been tempted to upgrade my windows 8.1 pro machine at home to Windows 10 but I haven’t and probably won’t after my experiences with it at work which I will explain below.

In fact I’m actually looking for ways to uninstall all windows os from my home computers and resort to using Linux and hopefully get wine working for the few windows programs that I do need but that’s a different story.

Windows 10 on a domain environment is pretty horrible for many reasons:

Windows 10 keeps locking out my credentials and I can’t access anything on the domain until I lock the pc and log back in. (this happens several times a day)

The message it pops up on the bottom right is “Windows needs your current credentials please lock this computer”

I often lose access to Dept_Shares and access to other servers even after fixing the error I explained above.

More times than not I cannot access the SQL servers such as dev1 or db0 through Access or SQL Server management studio until I restart.

Windows 10 will update the computer whenever it feels like and will do reboots as well.

Start menu is better but is still left to be desired by some. Plus many of the apps aren’t really work appropriate.

If you do decide to use any of the apps then Windows will try to make you login with a Microsoft account vs a domain login. There are ways around it but it’s not straight forward.

Windows 10 has a lot of privacy issues and if you don’t uncheck all the privacy settings the Microsoft basically logs everything you do on the computer and can even log keystrokes.

I’ve had issues where my services.msc and gpedit.msc window went completely blank after installing McAfee Agent 5.0 which is supposed to support Windows 10 for our Anti-virus. After restoring from a previous point where I didn’t have McAfee the issue was resolved.

While I did get McAfee Agent 5.0 installed I never did get Virus Scan installed yet due to how unstable Windows 10 is after installing the agent.

There might be other problems I had that I forgot to mention here but bottom line is I ditched my Windows 10 machine at work and went back to Windows 8.1 Pro.
The post Windows 10 Unstable in a domain enviroment first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Those who really know me in real life know that I work for a company as a Systems Administrator/User Support so I have to be on the up and up with systems and networks as they become available. I took the liberty of installing the Windows 10 Technical Preview on a virtual server on our network where I work so I can get a glimpse of what to expect in Windows 10.

This test was done using Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Build:9926.
You may notice that IE still exists on this build and that is because Project Spartan is not yet supported for this build of Windows 10.

So here is a list of changes I have noticed:

New Start Menu

Metro Apps on Desktop

Option of using Virtual Desktops

Here is a list of supposedly proposed changes to come:

Desktop Interface Overhaul to appear flatter.

Improved Snapping.

The Metro interface may be removed.

Charms bar is being removed from the desktop.

ReFS file system – Self repairing file system

Replace IE with a new browser currently code named Project Spartan.

My Thoughts:

Windows 10 has some nice improvements but I’m still not a fan of the start menu because it lists “all apps” and still doesn’t list all programs like we have had in Windows 7 which is a much better way of doing things.

In all honestly I don’t really care about Windows Apps nor will I probably ever want to use Windows Apps.

When you first install Windows 10 they are pretty insistent on you signing in with your Microsoft account. Quite honestly, I have never use a Microsoft account for any of my Windows 8 machines and I don’t plan to start with Windows 10.

OneDrive is baked into Windows 10 like Windows 8 as an app which is really annoying. I’d rather be able to have the option to have One Drive as an app or a normal program.

I just hope Startisback.com has a solution for Windows 10 so I can keep using a Windows 7 like start menu.

I finally received my Timberline chainsaw sharpener in the mail on 09/26/2014 and was pumped to try it right away but I waited until the next day.

I first tried it on a chain that was already on my saw that wasn’t really dull but it could used some refreshing up done. The tool seemed to work rather well but like I said it wasn’t really dull to begin with.

Up next came the real test when I took off the freshly sharpened chain and put on another chain that was really dull and I failed to get it sharp with just a file.

It look me a little bit to get it seated on there just right but once it was in place I managed to get the chain sharpened and when I tested it out today it cut like a brand new chain.

Bottom line this chainsaw sharpener really works though it is a bit pricy on the pocketbook to purchase but in the end it’s going to save me a lot of headaches and hassles.

For years I have worried about how secure my cloud storage data is expecially on services like Google Drive and Dropbox and I have been looking for ways to secure my data.

I’ve tried a number of things such as using Axcrypt for individual files and creating TrueCrypt volumes on my cloud storage but all of them have their own flaws and issues which I’m not going to list in this review.

I may of came up with a solution for both my issues with the previous encryption services. I recently I have been playing with a new service I discovered named Safebox.

Safebox works differently by creating a folder named Safebox on your computer where you would store the unencrypted documents which later get encrypted and put into a .safeboxdata folder on your cloud storage.

Here is a screenshot of my “Top Secret Document” I created that I needed encrypted.

Here is a screenshot of the same file encrypted on my Dropbox account.

I also took a little time to test the decryption process, by installing Safebox on my work computer to test the decryption process and right away I ran into some issues where my file wasn’t properly decrypted and was made unreadable on my work pc.

Reason why this happened is because it also encrypts the temporary windows file so until the file is closed on whichever computer has it currently open it will be unreadable on other computers.

I’m running out of time tonight to further test this product so I will leave you with my conclusion on Safebox.

Conclusion

Here is my conclusion on the product Safebox which appears to be a great product but it does not come without it’s pros and cons which I outlined below.

I will also state that I’m undecided if I will plan to use this to secure my personal documents or not due to some of the cons I listed below.

Pros

Encrypts documents prior to sending them to cloud storage.

Encrypts Filenames.

Military Grade AES 256 bit encryption.

Master Password to access all files.

Does not require an account and they don’t upload your information, file details or keys to their servers.

One time fee of $9.99 & no annual subscription fee.

User-Friendly & Easy to use.

Data Encrypted prior to being synced on the cloud.

Cons

Files don’t decrypt correctly if left open on another computer.

Puts each encrypted file in it’s own folder inside of .safeboxdata

Does not cleanup empty directly folders which used to contain deleted encrypted files.

Not possible to share encrypted files to a friend or co-worker unless u give them your master password and possibly your cloud storage account information.

No known portable versions available.

Resetting master password erases all your files.

Thank you for reading my review of this software and I hope it helps you in your purchasing decisions & securing your cloud storage solution.
The post Safebox for Cloud Storage first appeared on Matt Crawford.
