AnyDesk is a great solution for anybody who is in a pinch to either get assistance from another person or assist somebody with their computer issue. Best of all AnyDesk is free for personal use and is cheap enough to pay for commercial use if that is your need.

In this post I will walk you through using AnyDesk to receive help or use it to help another person. I’m going to start off with going over how to receive help because I am a techy and I often help others more than have them help me.

Use AnyDesk to receive help

First you need to download AnyDesk so go to AnyDesk.com and click the red download button.

Now that you have it downloaded you need to click the AnyDesk icon to run it.

Give the user who is helping you the AnyDesk Number. It should be a string of 9 numbers.

When they remote in you will have to click Accept before they can see your screen.

Now the user should be able to see your screen, move your cursor, etc.

How to help somebody using AnyDesk

Install AnyDesk on your computer and open it up.

Ask the person for their AnyDesk number (should be a string of 9 numbers)

Type in their AnyDesk number into one of the two spots shown below

The other user will have to hit Accept before you can see their screen but once they do you should be able to see and control their computer.

That’s all there is to it… If you have questions or issues using my guide please leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you.
The post How to use AnyDesk first appeared on Matt Crawford.

You’re using your Pi and your monitor keeps going blank and it’s driving you
mad.

There are various methods to accomplish this so we’ll look at a few. That way
if you find one isn’t working for you, you’ll have some alternatives.

setterm – terminal blanking

On a per session basis, you can run:

setterm -blank 0 -powerdown 0

This will set the timeout of your monitor to 0, which will prevent it from
going to sleep.

If you get yelled at about permissions, try “sudo setterm” instead.

You might not want to enter these commands every time you boot up your Pi.
In this case, open up your .bashrc file (or .extras or other custom file you
might use).

nano ~/.bashrc

At the end of the file add a new line with the setterm command you entered
before.

setterm -blank 0 -powerdown 0

Hit ctrl+x to exit, ‘y’ to save your changes and enter to save the file.

Note: the default value for the -blank option is 0 so it may be excluded

Now when you boot up, your monitor will never sleep.

kbd configuration – terminal blanking

Open up your configuration:

sudo nano /etc/kbd/config

Find the line for BLANK_TIME and POWERDOWN_TIME and set them to 0.

BLANK_TIME=0
POWERDOWN_TIME=0

If these lines doesn’t exist go ahead and add them.

lxde configuration – Xsession blanking

The previous methods should work for the terminal. This method should prevent
your screen saver from coming on in the GUI.

Open up your lxde autostart file:

sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart

If your Pi is newer, the file you’ll need to change may be:

sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart

Add these lines:

@xset s noblank
@xset s off
@xset -dpms

lightdm configuration – Xsession blanking

If adding those settings to your LXDE autostart didn’t work, this might help
if you’re booting straight into the GUI.

Open your lightdm configuration:

sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Anywhere below the [SeatDefaults] header, add:

xserver-command=X -s 0 -dpms

This will set your blanking timeout to 0 and turn off your display power
management signaling.
The post Prevent your Raspberry Pi from Sleeping first appeared on Matt Crawford.

I always have people messaging me on Twitter or other platforms asking me how I take my nude self portraits and they are always amazed when I respond with, I take them myself.

In this article I’ll explain Camera Modes, how to hold your camera and step by step instructions showing how I take my nude self portraits. There are a number of different techniques you can use & I’ll try my best to cover them all in this article.

DSLR Camera Modes

In this section I will cover the different camera modes you might find on a dslr camera if you are a lucky owner of one of these types of cameras.

Timer Method

Timer mode will allow you to set a timer for different time lengths. The idea of using this mode is you will have your camera on a tripod, pointing where you intend to stand, you will then push the shutter button, and go pose for the photo in the designated area.

Wireless Remote Method

Wireless remotes are amazing, with a wireless remote you can place your camera in this mode, go stand in front of the camera and take a photo using the remote! Way easier than using the timer and going back and forth between each photo.

Cell Phone Modes

Cell phones likely have a timer mode which I mentioned above & you can also purchase a wireless bluetooth remote to use with your phone to take photos as well. However, some cell phones come with another mode that you may not of known about.

Use Voice Commands

Some cell phones like the Samsung S8 and S9, S9+, S10 has a feature called voice commands where you can say words like “Cheese” “Smile” and others to take a photo when this feature is enabled. So prop your phone against something or use a tripod and phone mount and point it where you want to stand and test it out!

Holding the camera

Now that we have covered modes you might find on your camera, it’s time to cover how you might hold or position the camera for your selfie!

Camera and a Tripod

This is my preferred method & is my go to method to take the majority of my nude self portraits that you likely have seen on my twitter account.

Gear required:

DSLR Camera (timer mode or wireless remote required)

Tripod

If using a cell phone get a phone holder and bluetooth remote.

Use a Selfie Stick or camera stand

Get a selfie stick! With this handy device you can hold your cell phone, aim it back at yourself and snap photos. Easy!

Use your Arm

This one is pretty self explanatory. Hold your camera out away from your body with your arm. The goal here is to capture yourself while trying to keep your arm out of the photo as much as possible.

Use a mirror

I only recommend this method as a last resort as it can result in some fairly tacky results.

Hold your cell phone up in front of you with the camera turned on (flash off) and aimed into the mirror. You should be looking at your cell phone screen and seeing your reflection in the mirror on the screen.

Adjust your pose until you are happy with the image and cannot see your arm in the cell phone screen. Snap the picture.

How I take selfies!

I normally use a tripod, remote shutter and either a cell phone or my small mirrorless dslr. I have a bigger dslr I could use as well but the smaller one is nice for portability.

Canon EOS M pictured & cheap Manfrotto tripod

First thing to do is to install your camera on your tripod

Position the camera pointing towards where you plan to stand in the photo

Behind the Scenes

Click the shutter button on your wireless remote (or use a timer) and if you were successful you should have a new photo of yourself on your camera!

How to setup Budabot in Linux

This guide talks about how to setup Budabot in linux. Budabot is a organization bot for the game Anarchy Online. If you don’t play that game then you don’t need to setup a bot. If u prefer windows follow this guide.

This guide assumes you have a working version of Ubuntu or Debian setup on a server or VPS server. If you don’t then get that setup first before you try to follow my guide.

These steps also assume you have already created a new character and joined it to your org (if it’s an org bot)

Now that the requirements are out of the way, lets start.

Install packages required to make it run

It will ask u to set a password for mysql so make sure u do that.

apt-get -y install php php-mbstring php-curl php-xml php-mysql php-sqlite3 php-bcmath unzip mysql-server

Optional.. Install phpmyadmin by following Digital oceans guide

Download Budabot

You can find the downloads here. You may have to update the link I show below with the latest version.

cd /home/matt
mkdir budabot
cd budabot
wget https://github.com/Budabot/Budabot/releases/download/3.5_GA/Budabot3.5_GA.zip
unzip Budabot3.0_GA_build1303251942_linux.zip
cd Budabot3.0_GA_build1303251942_linux/

Setup Database

Now its time to login to mysql and setup the database. U can do that using the following commands.

Mysql -u root -p
CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS `myBudabot` ;
CREATE USER 'myBudabot'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'myBudabotpass1';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `myBudabot`.* TO 'myBudabot'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'myBudabotpass1';

make chatbot executable

chmod +x ./chatbot.sh

Start the bot & setup database

Type in the command below & follow the prompts to setup the bot.

./chatbot.sh

Make sure you use mysql database and that you set it up manually, give it the information u used above when u created it.

You will also need an Anarchy Online account and character to run as the bot. I used a froob account that was a Squad Commander in a guild.

Once u are done setting it up you can “ctrl + C” to kill the bot so we can set it up to boot at startup.

Start bot at boot up

sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/Budabot.service

and enter something like this

[Unit]
Description=Budabot
After=network.target

[Service]
User=myname
Group=myname
WorkingDirectory=/home/myname/Budabot
ExecStart=/home/myname/Budabot/chatbot.sh

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

replace “myname” with whatever user/group you want running it. I kept it simple and ran it as my user account and from my home directory.

Test your new service

sudo service Budabot start

And you can set it to run at start with:

sudo systemctl enable Budabot

Systemd logs all output, so while you can’t actually see the terminal you can access that services current log to see what would of been in the terminal up to that point, which is pretty cool. The command for that is:

sudo journalctl -u Budabot.service
The post Setup Budabot in Linux first appeared on Matt Crawford.

Twitter isn’t exactly against nudity entirely but they do have some rules about how to setup your account that they prefer users to follow.

Even better, if you follow Twitter’s rules on nudity then you likely won’t be banned anytime soon. So what are Twitter’s rules you ask? Well if you read their terms of service they basically clearly outline it for you but many folks simply don’t follow the rules.

Twitter’s Rules are listed here for those who fail to stumble through the TOS to find the link.

In the rules under the section “Content Boundaries and Use of Twitter” and down to “Graphic Content” you will see this information.

Set your account to “Sensitive”

Basically what that means is that to meet Twitter’s terms you need to do the following:

Click your profile photo (by the tweet button up top) and click “Settings and Privacy”

Then on the left side click “Privacy and safety”

Scroll to bottom and check the box by “Mark media I Tweet as containing material that may be sensitive”

You you are free to post nudity without fear of Twitter banning you.

Alternatives to Twitter!

Tired of Twitter and their sensitivity to nudity? Well there are other options!

Ello.co – Ello allows nudity but they do ask that u mark your account as containing nudity (mostly for IOS users as Apple requirements to have Ello.co in their store).

Flickr – Nudity is allowed here but only if you flag it appropriately.

SnapChat – SC isn’t entirely against nudity but too much nudity and they may eventually ban you.

Tumblr – These folks allow nudity which is surprising because it’s owned by Yahoo.

This article explains how to use Proxy servers which are useful for a lot of things which I will explain below.

What is a Proxy?

As the name implies, a proxy server is an intermediary between your PC or device and the Internet. This server makes requests to websites, servers and services on the Internet for you.

Let’s assume that you are at work, using a web browser to visit news.google.com and your browser is set to use a proxy server.

After you type news.google.com, the request is sent to the proxy server. The server then sends the request to the server where our website is hosted. The homepage of our website is returned to the proxy server which, in turn, returns it to you.

As a result, our website sees the proxy server as the actual visitor, rather than seeing you.

Benefits of a Proxy Server

Here are some benefits of using a proxy server to:

Spoofing your IP address

Hide your real IP address, location and other information

Improve security by remaining anonymous

Provide access to blocked resources on the internet

Proxy Lists

There are a bunch of proxy lists on the internet where u can get proxy information from to use for this purpose but here are few that I found. You can find more lists like this by googling the term “Free proxy list”

Public Proxy Servers

Proxy Nova

US Proxy

Getting Started

There are several ways to use a proxy server. You can simply visit a website of a proxy server and surf to a website from there or you can add the proxy server to your browser settings for a more permanent browsing experience.

Using Proxy from the web

Visit one of the proxy servers from a known proxy list and they normally allow you to input the name of the website that you wish to view.

For example one I like to use is called Hide My Ass and when you visit it you cna see it allows you to enter the url of the site you wish to v isit and you can even set some other variables as well.

Setup Proxy for Chrome & IE

Open Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > Proxy Server > Check box and enter the proxy address and port that you want to use.

Note: Find updated proxy server IP & Port you wish to use from the Proxy List Above

Setup Proxy for Firefox

Click the 3 lines in the upper right corner and click Options

Then click Advanced > Network > Connection > Settings > then enter the address and port u wish to use there.

Note: Find updated proxy server IP & Port you wish to use from the Proxy List Above

In this post I’ll explain how to install and use Casper to upload photos from your camera roll to SnapChat.

Before I get started however let me state that I’m not responsible for your SnapChat account being banned for use of 3rd party apps which is against the terms of using SnapChat & I recommend you don’t do this if you truly value your account.

Lets get started!

First step is to go on your phone to Settings > Security (some phones its called lock screen and security) and check “Unknown Sources” to On.

This guide was originally written for Ubuntu but will work for Raspbian (Debian Jessie) flavor for RasberryPi as well. It might work for all debian distros but not guaranteed, you can try it out yourself. I “borrowed” this guide from here and rewrote it to fix the mistakes they had in their article.

NOTE: This guide is valid only for RaspberryPi Jessie.

The steps below assume you have Raspbian Jessie installed on your Raspberry PI 3.

Login to Raspbian. Default login is:

Become root user

sudo -i

Download required packages via yum

apt-get install apache2 libapache2-mod-php5 build-essential libgd2-xpm-dev

Create Nagios user

/usr/sbin/useradd -m -s /bin/bash nagios

Change nagios use password

passwd nagios

Now Create a group for allowing external comands via the WEB UI and then add both Nagios and Apache user to it.

/usr/sbin/groupadd nagcmd

/usr/sbin/usermod -a -G nagcmd nagios

/usr/sbin/usermod -a -G nagcmd www-data

Now download Nagios Core and Plugins from Nagios website to the /tmp directory. Latest versions as of now are Download Nagios 4.1.1 & Download Nagios Plugins 2.1.1

Create a directory for Nagios downloads

mkdir /tmp

cd /tmp

wget https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagioscore/releases/nagios-4.1.1.tar.gz

wget http://www.nagios-plugins.org/download/nagios-plugins-2.1.1.tar.gz

Untar the downloaded files

tar zxvf nagios-4.1.1.tar.gz

tar zxvf nagios-plugins-2.1.1.tar.gz

And then you will get 2 folders with the name “nagios-4.1.1” & “nagios-plugins-2.1.1”

First we will start with Nagios Core Install.

Change directory to Nagios 4.1.1

cd /tmp/nagios-4.1.1

Compile the source and install it. All the files would go into “/usr/local/nagios/”

./configure --with-command-group=nagcmd

make all

make install

make install-init

make install-config

make install-commandmode

Run this command to successfully install-webconf. (problem area not sure the below is 100% correct)

/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 sample-config/httpd.conf /etc/apache2/sites-available/nagios.conf

a2ensite nagios

service apache2 reload
The post Install Nagios 4 on RaspberryPI-Jessie first appeared on Matt Crawford.

There are 1 place inside of Skype with a checkbox that I like to uncheck so to do that Go to Privacy > Privacy Settings and uncheck the bottom box that says “Allow Microsoft Targeted ads, including use of Skype Profile age and gender”

Then, add the following to your hosts file at: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
You can edit your hosts file with Notepad ++ which is what I did.
